As the owner of North Star Dance Studio, and a member of the ballet teaching staff at Karen Aitchison School of Dancing prior to this, Miss Sarah is a familiar face to all of our ballet pupils, but let's take the time to get to know her a little better.

"Hello everyone! I expect most of you have met me before as I am not only the ballet teacher but also a current student, AND a parent!
My childhood was spent dancing in Kent where I completed all RAD levels from Pre-Primary to Grade 6 as well as my Pre-Elementary and Elementary (the equivalent of today's Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate). In 1996 and 1997 I successfully auditioned for the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain (NYB) and had the honour of dancing with them for 2 years. During my time with NYB I worked with choreographers including Wayne Sleep and performed at some of the most iconic venues in Britain, including the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, and the Royal Albert Hall. There's even an episode of me, dancing on Blue Peter, hiding in the BBC archives somewhere!
In 1999 I moved to Glasgow to pursue a degree in Geography before moving to Fairlie in 2011 and reconnecting with the Karen Aitchison School of Dancing in 2014 (see Our Story for more about this). Miss Aitchison easily persuaded me to sit my missing Grade 7 & 8 exams as well as my Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation and Advanced 1. I plan to take Advanced 2 in June 2026 to compete my full set!
In October 2024 I completed my Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) teacher's training course, becoming an RAD Registered Teacher. I am passionate about ballet, especially RAD ballet which I feel is a wonderful syllabus for our students to study, and I strive to pass this love for ballet onto our pupils. I believe that everybody can learn to dance, whether they are 3 or 93, and I put as much enthusiasm into teaching our Nursery Ballet classes as I do for our adult students.
